Back in the studio

My dear friends, I hope you had a most lovely Christmas season! We closed up shop and headed down South to spend time with our families. 4874 kilometers later, we had visited them all. Thankfully we flew and not drove, although after being in 3 different states in 10 days, im thinking next year, we might just say, we love you, but cant visit you all!

While in Sydney my Mum and I had a lovely day of styling and shooting some of our recent wedding invitation packages. How much of a beautiful job did my Mum do with the photographs of Susan & Mikes wedding package above. She has an amazing collection of vintage silverware and a gorgeous garden - absolute bliss for styling!

Wishing you all a very happy new year!

All wrapped up

Growing up my Mum taught me many wonderful things like how to be a good person, how to live life (which basically means how to be silly), how to be honest and warm hearted, how to cherish each day and love unconditionally. But most of all she taught me that presentation means everything!

My mum has always been the queen bee of beautiful wrapping. Last year she wrapped in Florence Broadhurst wallpapers, and this year she has outdone herself with her gorgeous blue and red dragonfly theme in the photo above. What a special mum, I feel so privileged to have grown up surrounded by such appreciation of the beautiful things in life!
Merry Chirstmas Mum!

Happy Weekend!

My lovely friends, im wishing you beautiful pre christmas weekend. I hope you get time amongst the rush of shopping confusion this weekend to enjoy with friends and family. I am having a very big avoidance of the shops this year and have gone for a handmade approach and have made or purchased from other beautiful designers. With many 3am mornings this week madly sewing and swearing at my sewing machine, I hope, fingers crossed, I can now relax and enjoy the magic of christmas. I'ld love to show you what I've made, but that will just spoil the surprise!!

Before I head down to Sydney today I wanted to share with you a gorgeous letterpress idea which is being started by Paper Stories. Now unfortuantly its only open to those of us who print letterpress, and not admirers, but she is organising a global swap amongst the letterpress designers and printers of the world. You can find more information here. It will certianally be all my christmases at once receiving a beautiful big bundle of prints!

Have a most lovely weekend, and I'll see you all next week from somewhere down south!

Its a peonie kind of day

Im having a most lovely time today drawing and illustrating peonies for a gorgeous wedding couple. One of my favourite parts of researching for wedding stationary is searching for inspiring photos to help build us a mood board which then forms the basis of the colour and style for our stationery design. Sometimes I come across the most beautiful things, such as these gorgeous photos by Sandra, Such beautiful colours and compositions. I am feeling most inspired!

In the studio today

We headed off down the beach first thing this morning for a early dip in the sea with Ruby our dog. Followed by my favourite freshly squeezed watermelon & pineapple juice, im determined that this must become my new summer routine. Ruby herself has established her own summer routine - sleep by the presses, occasionally stir when the churn of the press gets to loud and bark at vistors only when required.

Such barking was required today when the courier delivered our latest batch of photopolymer plates. Captured here today with my morning cup of tea.

Today we printed a gorgeous vintage invite in pretty pinks, I love handmixing our inks, its such a beautiful process to watch the colours blend.

Its also been great to watch my husband in progress building away in our studio. He is building us a new 3metre by 60cm work table for our office. Tomorrow its off to the panel beaters to be sprayed in a pretty shinny 2pac white.

Such a busy day!

In the studio today

Most exciting news, today we started printing our limited edition prints which will be for sale next week!!

It was a beautiful day in the studio, gorgeous light filtering through our new windows, the press was being a fine old gentleman and behaving himself (he does like to throw temper tantrums), and if hadn't had been a sweltering 32'C inside the studio I would say it would have been one of our loveliest days ever!

Onto weekend news im off to visit the GOMA annual design market and then on Sunday im off to sell my art at the Southbank Young Designers Market.

With so many wonderful designer markets happening this weekend around Australia, I hope you too get to be inspired by the wonderful talents which surround us!

Renae & Thomas Wedding Stationary

Renae & Thomas's stationary package features a gorgeous modern olive green coupled with a lovely warm grey. The style is simple, elegant and sophisticated. It also features place settings, registry cards and menu cards. Featuring an illustration which I have illustrated and the combination of a script typeface coupled with a modern serif - this is going go be such an opulent invitation once printed!

Susan & Mike Wedding Stationary

We have had so many requests lately to see more samples of our work here at Bespoke Press so I thought it was about time that I gave you a sneak peak of a few wedding packages about to be printed in our studio in the coming weeks.

Susan & Mikes stationary is a striking one colour black design. Not only economical (just one colour) its also so strong with its simplicity and strong typographic design.

You just cant go wrong with Black and white and beautiful typography - so striking, yet modern and opulent all at the same time!

preparing for christmas

We are feeling the christmas cheer here at Bespoke already.

Despite the fact that my husband and I have lived together for 6 years and been married for 4, we have never actually had our very own christmas tree. Shocking I know.

A fter so many years of treelessness I tried in earnest last year and headed down to Myer in early October - only to be told that the most gorgeous tree they stocked had sold out. Now I just couldn't then buy any old tree, my heart and soul was sold on the great big Myer special tree. It seems I wasn't the only one who was missing out as not only had ALL the stores sold out, but their supplier was out of stock too. Bummer. It was yet another sad treeless year again.

So this year I was determined, the day that the christmas stock came in store in September I would be the first one in (Quite clearly I have obsessed over this since last year). So off I go, into Myer, it was even 25% off an all, so it was bound to be a beautiful day.

And what do you know, sold out! Sold out in the first day they are stocked. Oh my, I think I swore, it wasnt even lunchtime yet! Thankfully they did track one down for me, Phew. So now after a little holiday at Layby the tree is now at home, upright, and taking up far more room then it should. But my heart is mended, we will this year have christmas. Finally.

And in the spirit of the festive season to come, here is a sneak peak of a christmas card we have been working on here at Bespoke. Quite clearly with 4 weeks to christmas and our online store not yet open, we are being all organised and getting ready for next year!

Bespoke Press News

Well my friends it has been a busy busy week here at our studio and home. We had 29 lovely friends and family fly up to Queensland to help celebrate my husbands 30th birthday. We had a wonderful shared Spanish table at Boroughs Restaurant and then a recovery bbq the next day. Such a beautiful weekend, we are so very blessed to have such amazing family and friends!

Its all very busy here at Bespoke at the moment. We have many wedding couples making the most of our 20% off letterpressed wedding invitation packages. These couples will be featuring on our soon to be launched website. This offer is available for all orders placed before December 31, so if you are getting married soon and are interested in having us design your wedding invitation suite for you don't miss out as we are almost all booked out until February.

On other exciting news, our studio is in the process of a massive renovation after a wee incident with a car loosing control and crashing through the front of our studio! We have had many people interested in coming out and viewing our studio and many keen designers wanting to do internships. Unfortunately we cannot accept visitors while work is going on but early next year we should be in a much better position ( and a far prettier studio) to do so!

In other exciting news, as many of you know I have also been a Graphic Design lecturer whilst also running Bespoke Press. The end of the college year has come and I have made the move not to continue teaching fulltime. It has been an incredible experience to inspire and teach others and watch them grow into the amazing designers that they are, but it is just far too much work to manage lecturing and running Bespoke all at the same time. So as of this week I am now purely self employed and looking forward to offering a much faster turn around time as well as a more dedicated service to my clients. I also cannot wait to get my new range launched in the new year and out to stockists. And as for our new website hopefully now I may have time to get it up and running!

Hope you have all been having a most lovely week!

Enough already!

This last week Brisbane has been bashed senseless by a week of intense destructive storms, and please, we beg, who ever controls the storms please just send them away!

Our first introduction of the storms that were to come last Sunday were on a flight from Sydney back to Brisbane. When the captain tells you early in the flight to buckle in as the flight is only going to get much worse it is a slight cause for concern! It was the most turbulent, bouncing up and down, people throwing up flight of my life. I turned to my dear husband who himself is a pilot on the airline that we were flying and asked if its normally ever this rough. When he said, no this is about as bad as it gets, its not exactly reassuring! We eventually did land in Brisbane watching lightening out the windows striking trees and setting them on fire, it was an exceptional feeling to walk off that plane I tell you!

Sundays storm turned out to be horrific with so much damaged caused. Wednesday nights storm turned out to be a flooder with so many streets and houses flooded and tonights storm intense and full of hail. What a week of very little sleep. My heart goes out to those who houses were damaged on Sunday, only to be flooded on Wednesday, and then battered again tonight. You poor souls. $500 million is the expected damage and I do hope that the next storm due on Saturday never makes it.

We have thankfully fared okay, with just small flooding to the studio but powerlines down up the street. The images above from Ninemsn are taken at the entrance bridge to our peninsula - normally sunny and full of boats and fishermen, these images make me scared just looking at them!

So now please, I beg, Mr Storm Controller please go away and leave us in peace!
